Hey, guys. New comics are coming soon, I swear. In the mean time I thought I’d show you this awesome piece of fanart I just got from Shane Kirshenblatt. Shane is a freelance illustrator, teaching artist, and the author of the graphic  novel series Dorothy Gale: Journey to Oz. Shane was my art teacher from the time I was twelve to fifteen. He taught me a lot of what I knew about drawing before I started Lemon Inc. and has continued to support my endeavors. One of the ways that he has done so is by drawing me this pinup. I really appreciate the attention to detail that he put into it. If you look closely you’ll notice that even the sun, the clouds, and the hills, are shaped like lemons.

TCAF 2010

My haul from this year's TCAF

I know this is really late. I had totally planned to write this post immediately after TCAF. That didn’t happen. Anyhoo I found out about the Toronto Comic Arts Festival last year and knew I would love it. TCAF is unlike any comic convention I have ever been to. They don’t even call it a convention. They refer to it as a festival which actually sounds like a lot more fun than a convention… and it is!

Comic conventions have never really been what I’ve wanted them to be. Movies, videogames, and wrestlers can overshadow the actual art of comics and the comics that are there are generally focused solely on the super hero genre. The majority of the floor is filled with comic book store retailers with a bunch of white boxes filled with thousands of back issues that I won’t understand because I haven’t been reading the series from which they come from the time I was a fetus. While there are always lots of big name artists at these shows most of them work for Marvel or DC rather than create original properties which are what I’m most interested in.

Lemon Inc. Spotlighted on Digital Kontent

April 29th, 2010 | by Tim Lai

Shane Kirshenblatt of Freefall Entertainment and co-organizer of the Creators’ Marketplace, was recently interviewed on the Digital Kontent podcast. At the end of the podcast he does a spotlight on Lemon Inc.

One of several revelations in this podcast is that I’m 15… which I guess I should correct as I’m actually 16. Shane is one of few people who know this as he is my former art instructor. But I guess it is out in the open now.

Shane also discusses his graphic novel series, Dorothy Gale: Journey to Oz, his upcoming horror anthology and the Creator’s Marketplace show, as well as 3D movies and South Park. Listen to the podcast here.

Creators’ Marketplace 2010

April 24th, 2010 | by Tim Lai
Posted In: Blog

If you live in or around the Toronto or Thornhill area and you’re looking for something to do on the weekend of May 1st then might I suggest that you drop by the Creators’ Marketplace. It’s a great local art show held by Shane Kirshenblatt, Sari Kirshenblatt, and Ali Morbi that was created to help support local artists.

The show has everything from comic book art, animation art, fine art, custom made T-shirts, jewlery, and baked goods. You can even meet Kurt Lehner, animation artist for Disney, Warner Bros., Dreamworks, and designer of Franklin the turtle. There will also be a silent auction. All proceeds generated from the auction will be donated to the Foundation Fighting Blindness.

The show will take place at the Thornhill Community Centre. Admission is only 5$ and if you print out this coupon then you can get a dollar off the regular admission price. For more information watch this promo on Roger’s TV.

The Hip And Swanky New Website!

April 18th, 2010 | by Tim Lai
Posted In: Blog, Website

Welcome to the new website! Lemon Inc. 2.0! Even though it’s been a bit less than a year since I launched the comic I’ve had a lot of ideas for making the website better and I’ve tried to implement all of them into the new design. I hope you like it.

New Layout

The comic itself is actually a bit smaller but I feel that this makes it easier to read since it requires less scrolling and the image loads faster. When I designed the old website I was using a fairly small screen resolution and as a result it didn’t look very good on higher ones. The new website is designed for wider screen resolutions. However I’ve also tested it on lower ones and it looks good as well.

New Content

I’ve completely rewritten the about page and merged it with the cast page. There’s also a little information about me there now. I intend to start updating this blog with occasional blog posts from the characters’ perspectives. As a bonus, When you hover over the occasional comic you will see commentary by Andy.
