Other Places You Can Find Me Online

July 23rd, 2009 | by Tim Lai
Posted In: Blog

Hi, I hope you’re enjoying Lemon inc. I thought I’d let you know about a few other places where you can find me online.

My Blog

If you didn’t already know this, I also have an art blog where I post artwork and sketches that are unrelated to Lemon Inc. or that I don’t feel are polished enough to post here.

Twitter

You can also follow me on Twitter as @lemoninc where I link to things, talk about Lemon Inc., comics, and life in general. I tweet daily. You can also use Twitter to contact me.

Flickr

You can see my photos, sketches and illustrations at my Flickr photostream.

StumbleUpon

I’m on StumbleUpon but I don’t Stumble very often…

My Tumblog

I have recently created a Tumblr page on impulse. I think I’m going to post things that I think are cool here but I’m not sure yet.

Webcomics Inc.

I also have a profile on Webcomics Inc., a social networking site for webcomics fans and authors. Feel free to friend me. I have also set up a group for Lemon Inc. on Webcomics Inc.

Where I’m Not

I used to be on Facebook but I’m not anymore because they deleted my profile. They said that I couldn’t prove that I was who I said I was but I’m definitely who I say I am. I’m not on Myspace because I’ve heard that there’s a lot of spam on Myspace.

Are there any other social networking/profile/micro-blogging/bookmarking websites that are worth joining?

-Tim

Movie Review: Up

July 14th, 2009 | by Tim Lai

pixarup

I finally saw Pixar’s Up last Sunday and in short I really liked it. The purpose of this blog post isn’t to sum up the story or to present an objective review but to simply share my opinion of the film. In case you don’t know much about it here’s a basic summary:

Up is about Carl Fredricksen, an old man, looking back on his life and lamenting all the things that he didn’t do. He and his wife had dreams of going on grand adventures in South America but never managed to achieve these dreams. After the death of his wife he decides to attach a bunch of balloons to his house and float his way there.

When I first saw the trailer I’ll admit I was a bit skeptical about the film. I really liked the fact that they put an old man in the lead role though. A lot of people thought that it was a bad decision because people would have a hard time relating to an elderly character. This doesn’t make any sense to me. Old people make great characters! Who has more baggage or regrets than an old character?

The “Official” Launch

July 7th, 2009 | by Tim Lai
Posted In: Blog

Lemon Inc. officially launches today. Technically it’s already launched since I’ve already posted two comics but when I say that it’s “officially” launched I mean that it has started updating with comics that have never been posted on the blogspot page or my Flickr page and that I’m going to start keeping a reliable update schedule.

If you visited Lemon inc.’s Blogspot page then you know that I had posted some early Lemon Inc. comics there. This WAS NOT a launch of the comic in any way. I didn’t do these in any particular order. I just did the first gags or scenes that came to mind so that I could get some experience doing the comic and experiment a bit before I set up this website.

However I’d always intended for Lemon Inc. to be a storyline based comic and most of the gags were fragments of storylines. I didn’t post many of the comics that are on the Blogspot page on the website because they come chronologically later than the comics that I’m posting right now.

I have refined my process since I created those comics and feel that they no longer meet the same level of quality as the comics I’m doing now in terms of art at least. Therefore I’m not sure weather I should post them before the comics that come chronologically first, post them later on where they belong in the story, or redraw them altogether. How would you like to see these comics? If anyone has an opinion on this please let me know.

Welcome to Lemon Inc.

June 25th, 2009 | by Tim Lai
Posted In: Blog, Me

Hi! I’m Tim Lai. I came up with the idea for Lemon Inc. a couple of years ago. I had always thought it would take the form of a newspaper-style comic. However since I knew how hard it would be to break into newspaper comics that idea never even crossed my mind. I also wanted it to be edgier than a newspaper comic might be so it didn’t really make sense.

I had been mostly focused on the idea of entering the field of graphic novels and because I didn’t think of this as a graphic novel I pushed it to the back burner. Not many graphic novel publishers are particularly interested in comedy though and that is often my genre of choice. I have been aware of webcomics for quite some time though and read several on a daily basis. I was even aware that some people made a living off of their webcomics but I thought that it was a goal that was even more unrealistic than starting a newspaper comic.

About a year ago though I came to the realization that doing a webcomic would be a great way to hone my cartooning skills. Lemon Inc. was the first idea that came to mind. I designed the characters, came up with some storylines, and even designed a website but I never got around to actually getting web hosting or setting up my site until now. This actually turned out to be a blessing because it gave me time to learn about webcomics and prepare myself for my own.

During the past year I have been expanding the number of webcomics that I read and have discovered some truly great comics (although I have yet to read through many of the ones that I have discovered… the ones with big archives) and I have familiarized myself with the world of webcomics. Webcomics seem to have a different atmosphere than newspaper comics or graphic novels. I could create a comic in any genre about anything I wanted and it wouldn’t matter. It feels like I’ve found the venue I’ve been looking for to make comics.

I have realized that it truly is possible to turn this into a career and I hope that I can one day although I’m not focusing on making this into one at the moment. For now I feel that I simply need to make this comic for the joy of doing so. I hope you will enjoy reading Lemon Inc. I am very excited about it and I have some ideas that I feel, if I can pull them off, could be kinda epic.

I plan to update the comic on Tuesdays and update this blog at least once a week. Please feel free to tell me what you think of the comic so far and of the site design too.

Thanks for reading this!
