I really did like the fantastic aspects of Up. I think what I was trying to say was that ultimately it was that underlying sentimentality that made the film for me. I liked the fake Utopian themes and the environmental and societal messages of Wall-E and thought that the robots were cute. I just thought that it was a bit longer than it needed to be and found the mixture of animated characters and live action footage to be a bit jarring. I do think that like Up, Wall-E presented a more profound message than previous Pixar films have before.

I loved UP! The appeal to kids with an over-layer of adventure and the fantastic is enormous. Under that was a brilliant story with a fair amount of sentimentality. I really loved Wall-E too, but it was a different story altogether.

Loved it. Its not the Pixar movie that I would go see again and again (probably b/c I wouldn't want to be caught tearing up) but was great.

Agree Wall-E was a let down based on the hype.
